Sometimes saving money can be as simple as decluttering your cell – from clearing out apps on your phone that are costing you data to unsubscribing to subscriptions services.
This article will outline 10 ways to avoid spending money unnecessarily on your smartphone.
10 Way To Avoid Spending money Unnecessarily on Smartphone:
- Remove non-crucial app notifications where you can and save data.
- Cut down on how often you update, or sync, your inbox. If you have your phone or iPad set to fetch data wirelessly at specific intervals you will quickly consume data. Constant email notifications are also data consuming.
- Go offline and save data in Google Maps. You can download an area in Google Maps so that it uses less data when navigating to your destination. For Android: Go onto maps, search for the area you want, tap more info and then download. For Apple: iOs doesn’t have this option but you can load a route beforehand and Apple Maps will remember it without data. Enter the route normally while connected to WiFi or data, let it load, then turn off data. You can also export the route as a PDF if you’re feeling old-school.
- Delete toll-free numbers saved on your cellphone. Toll-free calls aren’t free when you make them from a cell phone.
- When you’re on a mobile device it’s better to visit mobile versions of websites. Delete the links for desktop versions and save data.
- Using a browser like Opera Mini -which is Android and iOS compatible- compresses data and reduces data spending.
- Delete apps that charge or have silent charges such as subscriptions services, that charge you every month.
- Watch out for dodgy SMS subscription services that you don’t want, but are charging you daily. This can happen when you don’t untick a box on a spam mail or you accidentally reply to an SMS. If you get a text and it is from a legitimate company you can reply STOP, but if it looks a bit seedy contact your service provider and make sure you are not being charged.
- Delete auto-renew transcriptions. Some subscriptions (that you agreed to) automatically renew until you end them. It’s ideal to cancel before the renewal date. On Android: if you subscribed to the services via the Google Play Store (from the Android mobile devices), you only can unsubscribe from there. Launch the Google Play Store app, tap Menu -> My Apps -> Subscriptions and tap on the app of the subscription you’d like to cancel. On iOS: go to Settings ->Apple ID Profile -> iTunes & App Store -> Apple ID -> View Apple ID -> sign in and then tap Subscriptions. Choose the subscription that you want to manage and use the options to manage your subscription.
- Have a look at your anti-virus apps. These are becoming increasingly unnecessary as most major tech names market their apps’ anti-virus capabilities as part of a larger security package. But, if you install software from third-party sources (ie not the Google Play Store) you should still be wary of viruses.
