Really, it’s anything you want it to be. For our purposes we’ll say that a blog is your own website that you are going to update on an ongoing basis. Blog is a short form for the word weblog and the two words are used interchangeably.

Here are a couple of other definitions: “the first journalistic model that actually harnesses rather than merely exploits the true Democratic nature of the web. It’s a new medium finally finding a unique voice.”– Andrew Sullivan“ [a] collection of posts…short, informal, sometimes controversial, and sometimes deeply personal…with the freshest information at the top.”–Meg Hourihan

Originally blogs were known primarily as places for people to write about their day-to-day activities. Their mundane, everyday tasks became fodder for journal entries. Somehow these writers gained a following and the hobby of blogging was born. Today people write about far more interesting topics, but we’ll get to that in a minute.

Bloggers have the opportunity of reaching hundreds or even thousands of people each and every day. There are still many people who like to share the details of their days. How to Start a successful and fruitful  blog

Basically, to start a fruitful blog, there are a series of steps to pass through in other to achieve succes. This is what I charge people $250 and above to coach and setup but now I’m unleashing it free today due to some reasons.

Below is a list of steps you need to consider;

  • Set your goals.
  • Choose a blogging niche.
  • Choose a perfect domain name.
  • Choose a blogging platform.
  • Design and customize your blog
  • Create and post unique content or articles on your blog.

1. Set your goals:
Like in any business, you need to draft your objectives and works towards it. This may include, the kind of audience you want to target, the kind of niche, number of posts you’ll love to publish in a day, weeek etc. How you want your blog to look like in the mere future and so on.

2. Choose a Profitable Blogging Niche:
Your niche is your blog topic. This is what you’ll be blogging about and let me tell you, you can blog about anything. Be specific, It’s what people will know your blog about, don’t just publish anything on your blog rather choose a topic that you are conversant and familiar with.

Pro Tip: Niche down as much as possible. This means pick a specific topic to blog about. Examples: Instead of blogging about education, blog about special education. Instead of blogging about fashion, blog about plus size fashion. Make sense? Be specific.
Why Important; If you blog about a topic you love, it’ll be easy for you to create content for it, over and over and over again. It won’t get boring. Keep this in mind when you pick your niche.

3. Choose a perfect domain name:
The fun part! Name your blog! This isn’t a big thing guys. You wanna pick a name that makes sense (it can even be your own name), have keywords in the blog name, if possible, and not be too long. I mention the blog name length because ideally you want your blog name to be your exact domain name.

For example: Abtech Blog and Abtechblog.com.ng

And, you want your domain name to be as few words as possible (2-3 words is best, 1 word is amazing, if you can get it). Once you pick your blog name/domain name, you’re ready to get hosting.

Why important; a perfect blog name is your brand name. So choose wisely.

4. Choose a blogging platforms:
There are a lot of blogging platforms on net, but you need to choose wiisely, because few of them are trusted and worthy. Huh? Is that so, Yea, but worry not because I’ll recommend some trusted once, which have used before.

Blogspot: If you want to blog just for passion and don’t wanna spend a dime, you can go for Blogger, but it has a lot of demerits and limitations. So if you want to invest (take it as a profession) don’t go for it. So which one can I use?

WordPress: Now, if you’re serious about blogging, and I mean professionally blogging, you want to have a self-hosted blog. This means your blog will have a domain name, like;

Abtechblog.com.ng instead of abtechblog.wordpress.com, for exeample.

Recommended Hosting Companies

1. Bluehost: My favorite is Bluehost!

I’ve gone with Bluehost over and over again for a lot of clients have worked for . They are super responsive and have a friendly staff.

Your hosting will likely come with a bunch of extras like free email, advertising credits, etc. The best part? It’s cheap! It starts at around $3.95/month! You cannot beat that!

Bluehost is a one-stop shop. You can get hosting and your domain name, in the same purchase! It all starts with your package. There are a few options…

I usually go with the Plus package. It includes a lot of cool extras, like the marketing offers and it’s only a little over a dollar more per month. Can’t beat the deal!

  2. Next, is the WordPress Installation

5. Design  and customize your blog:
Now that you’ve gotten hosting, domain, and connected WordPress. Now, bring on the fun stuff. Design! Designing your blog is so much fun especially when you know what to do. You get to pick a theme, create your pages, navigation, add pictures, and so much more.

Here are my favorite theme designers:

Themegrill

They have the prettiest feminine themes ever! They are gorgeous and come in a bunch of different styles. I’ve purchased and installed themes from them before. Just stunning. You will fall in love. Highly recommended and very affordable.

Studio press
They have a bunch of themes and what I love, is that they are geared toward certain industries, like food, fashion, etc. It makes it easier to make a decision on the theme you’d like.

I’ve bought a theme from StudioPress before and loved it. Their themes comes with the famous Genesis Framework. A little higher priced than Bluchic, but considering the framework is included, it’s a great deal and awesome investment.

6. Create and post unique content or articles on your blog.
Now you are set. Start producing content. So, create a handful of posts (5 to 10, ideally). Publish them, and go live! To make money you need to have traffic. Creating new posts on a regular basis helps with that. Blog more! I try to aim for creating content 3-7 times a week! It sounds like a lot, but it’s less than 10 hours per week and that includes promoting those posts. So, to work 10 hours/week and make a 40 hour/week income, isn’t too shabby, eh?
